The Tata Pipes Standard Tubes Plant employs the High Fequency Induction Welding (HFIW) process for manufacturing of pipes. The process also known as the 'Cold' Process, uses HR strips, which are manufactured at Tata Steel's modern Hot Strip Mill. In the HFIW process, the HR coils go through the flash welder, while a steady flow is assured from the super-coil accumulator. Cold stamping is done at this stage with the TATA seal of quality. The tubes then progressively form as the strip passes through successive rolls and is followed by high frequency induction welding at the edges to complete the weld.
External beads due to weld deposition on the outer surface of the tubes is then removed, to ensure a smooth surface finish. Following the welding process, an eddy current non-destructive testing machine screens out the imperfectly welded tubes. Tubes that pass the test, are cut into requisite lengths, following which they are carried by a conveyor system to the End-Facing machines. End-Facing involves deburring and bevelling, thus allowing for smooth, clean edges.

Galvanising |
High-tech hot dip galvanising process is used, in which the tubes are pickled just before galvanising. Super heated steam is blown through pipes to ensure clean bores and uniform coating on both surfaces. Only Tata Pipes uses 99.95% pure Zinc and guarantees uniform 360GSM Zinc coating on galvanised pipes. |
Hydrostatic Test |
The mill has all facilities to perform hydraulic testing upto 3000 p.s.i., using modern Galium Tester |

Tata Pipes also produces black pipes in sizes 200mm NB to 30mm NB in various thicknesses. These pipes are manufactured from best quality strips sourced internally from the state of the art Hot Strip Mill of Tata Steel. These sizes also complement our existing range in delivering better value proposition to our customers. |

- All Tata Pipes are made from the best quality steel from Tata Steel, with very levels of Sulphur, Phosphorus and impurities.
- Weld consistency and integrity, extended service life, trouble-free performance Savings and Economy.
- Low levels of carbon, Managanese in the steel, along with high temperature self-normalising properties in the case of the tubes rolled through the 'hot' process and controlled rolling of the HR strips in case of the 'cold' process endow the pipes with a beneficial combination of high strength, ductility and bendability.
- Amenable to superior fabrication characteristics as needed Savings on Fabrication Cost.
- Consistent and uniform Zinc coating both on the outside and inside of the tubes.
- Greater resistance to corrosion, avoidance of water contamination, longer life Savings and Economy.
